The cheapest ways to listen to audiobooks
Free and low cost options ranked by what they actually cost per book, from a free library card to $0.99 deals.
The cheapest audiobook is a library audiobook. Libby and Hoopla connect to your library card and cost nothing at all. Holds can take weeks for new releases, so put popular titles on hold early.
Next cheapest is Chirp, which has no subscription. Its email deals regularly include well known titles for under five dollars.
Free trials are worth using strategically. Audiobooks.com often offers three titles in its trial, and Audible one credit; both let you keep the books after cancelling.
Finally, watch for sales. Credit plans often run member sales where books drop below the price of a credit, which lowers your average cost per book significantly.
