Best for: Focused listeners who like to take notes.
Kahneman's book is one of the most important popular science works of its era, and Egan reads it competently and clearly. He is steady and precise, though rarely lively.
The challenge is the material. Many chapters invite you to try an experiment, solve a puzzle or compare figures, which is far easier with a page in front of you. A companion PDF helps.
Listen to it in thirty minute pieces and take notes. Do not try to absorb it while driving in heavy traffic.
Despite all that, the core ideas about intuition, bias and overconfidence will change how you think. It is worth the effort.
What we loved
- ✓Landmark ideas
- ✓Clear, precise narration
- ✓Rewarding repeat listen
Worth knowing
- –Long and dense
- –Experiments hard to follow by ear
The verdict
Better as a second format alongside print, but still worth your credit.
