Best for: Heavy readers who switch between ebooks and audio.

What it is

Everand is the books side of what used to be Scribd. One subscription covers audiobooks, ebooks, magazines and podcasts. Popular titles use monthly unlocks, while a large catalogue is available with no limits.

Value

If you listen to more than one book a month, Everand can be much cheaper per book than a credit plan. The catch is that you do not own anything; when you cancel, access ends.

Catalogue

The catalogue is broad but uneven. Some new releases are missing or count against your monthly unlocks. Back catalogue and genre fiction are strong.

The app

A tidy, modern app that handles both reading and listening well. Switching between formats for the same book is handy when available.

What we loved

  • ✓Audiobooks and ebooks in one plan
  • ✓Cheap per book for heavy listeners
  • ✓Good app

Worth knowing

  • –You do not keep books
  • –Unlock limits on popular titles
  • –Catalogue gaps on new releases

The verdict

Great value if you read and listen a lot and do not mind renting.
